My Weekend at Wild Dunes Resort
It’s hard to believe that I was staying at this resort nearly two weeks ago and just this weekend it was struck by Hurricane Florence. Luckily, Charleston and Wild Dunes Resort are still fully in tack but there are many prayers needed for the long road of recovery on the East Coast.
Vanessa and I had the pleasure of staying at Wild Dunes Resort following our visit to downtown Charleston, and it was the perfect relaxing end to a long week of traveling. I had heard amazing things about the Resort from friends, and was so excited to take a visit myself. Drew was very jealous because he knew it was a great destination for golfing and was sad he would be missing out on the trip. I told him not to worry because we will definitely be back!
Wild Dunes Resort is an oceanfront resort located about 45 minutes outside of downtown Charleston in Isle of Palms, SC. It would be a great vacation on it’s own for some beachside luxury or a wonderful addition to a vacation in downtown Charleston. The town of Charleston itself is a good distance from the beach, so a trip to Wild Dunes Resort allows for some beach time and relaxation for your family during a trip to the East Coast.
Vanessa and I stayed in one of the spacious Queen Room Suites at Wild Dunes Resort. The rooms were very comfortable and the bathrooms were huge, though there was so much to do, we didn’t spend a lot of time in our rooms. We had a friend staying at the resort at the same time as us and they rented the Presidential suite. It was a 2 story unit with 3+ bedrooms – perfect for a large family vacation or reunion. It was absolutely beautiful and had the best view of the property from it’s wraparound porch!
The thing I loved most about Wild Dunes Resort is how everything is located in the same generalized area. There are multiple restaurants, a market store, fitness center, beach bar, pool cabanas, and access to the main resort all within a short walk of each other. This made it very easy to navigate the property and visit everything Wild Dunes had to offer.
Restaurants & Where to Eat
Wild Dunes Resort has nine restaurants and shops for dining including an ice cream shop and provisions store. Vanessa and I had the opportunity to try out three of the restaurants during our stay, and I have to say Hudson’s market was our favorite for breakfast (they have the best buffet) and Coastal Provisions for dinner. If you are visiting with family, I definitely recommend you check out Billy G’s Smokehouse restaurant. It was a great, casual atmosphere and a great menu selection.
Vanessa and I also took advantage of poolside drinks and lunch at Beachside Burgers and Bar. It’s an open air restaurant located next to the pool off the beach. Highly recommend their Pina Coladas! This was probably our favorite day because we got to relax by the pool and soak up the last weekend of Summer by the pool. It’s perfect for families because they have great variety on their menu and parents can entertain their kids by the pool while also enjoying themselves with a couple poolside drinks. 🙂
What to Do
There is SO much to do on the property, and certainly something for everyone in the family. Vanessa and I were visiting for a girl’s trip, so we decided to spend our time relaxing by the pool as well as checking out the enormous beach! Wild Dunes Resort and Isle of Palms just invested a large sum of money to rebuild the beach after the recent hurricane hit. I am not lying when I say the beach appeared to be a mile X a mile both ways. It took us 5 minutes to watch and reach the ocean. I love how private the beach felt, and the size ensures you’ll never feel crowded while relaxing with friends/family.
For the men, there are premier golfing grounds for you to take advantage of, which Drew was very disappointed he did not get to visit and experience (don’t worry, we will be back)! In addition, Wild Dunes Resorts offers putting greens as well as a driving range for practice. For kids, there are lots of activities planned by the resort for entertaining. They can spend time playing at the numerous pools, rent a bike, visit the playground, or jump in on a game/activity organized by Wild Dunes.
Overall, I had a great time visiting Wild Dunes Resort, and think it would be a great destination for families, a girl’s trip, or even a couples trip. There is something for everyone to take a part of. If you are interested in visiting Wild Dunes Resort, the hotel is running a promotion for this upcoming Fall season and offering 20% off the nightly rate. Find out more about this deal HERE.
